ESPRESSO
Equipment Needed: Espresso machine, coffee grinder, portafilter.
- Grind Coffee: Grind your coffee beans finely, similar to table salt consistency.
- Prepare Equipment: Preheat your espresso machine and portafilter.
- Measure and Tamp: Measure out 18 - 20 grams of coffee grounds. Tamp them evenly in the portafilter.
- Extract: Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine and start your shot, using 1.5 - 2 oz (45 - 60 ml) of hot water.
- Extraction Time: Aim for about 25-35 seconds extraction time for a standard shot.
- Serve: Enjoy your espresso straight or use it as a base for other drinks like lattes or cappuccinos.
AEROPRESS
Equipment Needed: Aeropress, coffee grinder, kettle.
- Prepare Water: Heat 8 - 10 oz (240 - 300 ml) of water to around 200°F (just below boiling).
- Grind Coffee: Grind 15 - 17 grams of coffee to a medium-fine consistency, slightly coarser than espresso.
- Prepare Filter: Place a filter in the Aeropress cap and rinse it with hot water.
- Brewing Process:
- Add coffee grounds to the Aeropress, pour in water, and stir for about 10 seconds.
- Attach the cap and let it steep for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Press the coffee through, into your cup slowly.
- Serve: Dilute with hot water if desired.
COLD BREW
Equipment Needed: Coarse grinder, large container, fine mesh sieve or coffee filter.
- Grind Coffee: Coarsely grind 100 grams of coffee beans.
- Mix and Steep: Mix coffee grounds with 400 - 500 ml of cold water in a ratio of about 1:4 or 1:5 (adjust to taste). Stir to ensure all grounds are wetted.
- Steep: Cover and let it steep at room temperature or in the fridge for 12-24 hours.
- Strain and Dilute: After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve or a coffee filter. Dilute with water or milk to taste.
FRENCH PRESS
Equipment Needed: French press, coarse grinder, kettle.
- Prepare Water: Heat 32 oz (946 ml) of water to 200°F.
- Grind Coffee: Coarsely grind 55 - 60 grams of coffee beans, like breadcrumbs.
- Brewing Process:
- Add coffee grounds to the French press.
- Pour in hot water, ensuring all grounds are saturated.
- Stir gently to mix the grounds with the water.
- Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled up and let it steep for about 4 minutes.
- Slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the coffee.
- Serve: Pour and enjoy!
